Snow (er...ice) Day

Robby was off yesterday, so luckily he didn't have to go to work. We did go get my drug test done, however. That was trip! It started sleeting on the way there and never let up. We also went to the grocery store in the afternoon. lol - isn't it nice when you run out of things right in the middle of a storm like this?! Let me tell you...pushing that grocery cart through the parking lot was a chore! I pushed, Robby pulled!
After we got home, Robby went out to play with the dogs. They had a blast!

Robby helping Skye "walk" through the snow.

If you look close, Skye has her eyes shut as Sonny jumps at her!

Anyone want a snow bath?! Robby was throwing snow at the dogs - they loved trying to catch it!

I got a call from Kohl's this morning and I start with my orientation February 9th from 6pm-10pm. At least it's a little ways off and gives me time to look at other options.

We tore down the fish tank yesterday. Robby called James and he said he'd buy it from us so his kiddos can get some fish. Robby is going to take it to him tomorrow. We saved the bigger gravel rocks...Robby washed them up and I redecorated our 2nd bathroom with them and the seashells. I think it turned out pretty cool and 'beachy'.

It's coooold!

So, the ice storm is here. Of course, it arrived at the same time I had to go to my 2nd interview at Kohl's! My trip there wasn't bad. It was a little slick, but bearable. On the way home was a different story! I almost fell in the parking lot a couple times, then the car slid some on the way home. I had Robby wait to go to work so he could take my car (since it's all-wheel drive...it helps a little.) It took him almost 45 minutes to get to work.

As far as Kohl's goes...I got the job. I'll be working part time (for now) in the Misses/Juniors department. Sounds good to me!

I think I'll be spending the rest of the day chilling out and staying warm. Probably get caught up on school work, as well. I'm trying to stay a week or so ahead this semester. So far so good. I was supposed to do some CGC tests tonight in Edmond, but doesn't look like that'll happen!!

It's Saturday...!

Not much planned for today. I slept in a little (ok, a lot) too late. But it was soo nice! Robby works all day, so it'll be pretty boring around here until 9:30 or so.

I scheduled Skye to take her TDI (therapy dog) test on February 5th. Robby and I had been talking recently on how good of a therapy dog she would be. I have some things I need to polish up with her (especially her down) - but she should be ready to go in a couple weeks. Taking her through the intermediate obedience class right now will surely help.

I miss yesterday's weather!

It's so cold and windy today...and it's only going to get worse!

Had my interview this morning. Wow. That's all I can say. Despite a bumpy start (they brought me in to interview me for their receiving bay position...what the?? I didn't even apply for that!) I walked out with a 'job' in window coverings. Woohoo. I say that sarcastically. I'm hoping my other prospects come through next week so I don't have to work there. It would only be part time with a measley pay. But, it's a job...and right now, that's important.

That's all for now.

Getting better!

I got a lot done around the house today. Finally got caught up on laundry and dishes!! Had the windows open for quite a few hours since the weather was so nice, too! Robby has been sick here lately, so he finally went to the doctor. Sinus infection, yuck. We went to get his meds after we left Kim's office - I'm going to be soooo glad when we can change insurance policies, our prescription drug coverage sucks. His ONE script....$70. O.M.G.

Took Lexi for a walk again today. She did AWESOME! Only barked at one little dachshund who was reverse sneezing and pulling on his leash, lol. Other than that, she had tremendous focus and checked in with me quite a bit. We're getting there! I still pulled her off the trail the first half of the way, but then she was able to walk right by a few people without even pulling on the leash or looking towards them much.

I'm not sure that we'll get out the next few days since we're expecting a cold front. I might work on her rally stuff indoors until class on Tuesday.

Gotta go set up the humidifier for Robby and get the dogs ready for bed. I have an interview with Penneys tomorrow, let's hope it goes well!!

Progress

Last night was the first Intermediate class for Lexi & Skye. Overall I think it went well.

Skye: Robby did really well with her (although Lynne and I had to keep reminding him to keep her focus!) He was able to get her to do a couple out-of-sight stays, they did good on LLW (loose-leash walking), 'wait' was more of a refresher, and then her recall with distractions was excellent.

Lexi: She was totally over-stimulated at first and blew up at the lab that was also in our class. But, after I got her attention, she settled down and we got to work. Her LLW was very nice - I'm starting to get more eye contact. I only ask that she 'check in' with me every few steps, I don't need a full upright head all the time. Wait was awesome, she was the demo dog for that exercise. I was able to do a 40-50 ft stay that she held for about 1 minute. Her recall with distractions was awesome. She blew past Skye and the lab straight to me, did a nice front sit and then a good left finish. We haven't started working on right finishes much, I wanted her solid on left, first. She had some pulling issues some last night, but we got through that pretty quick and went on to our LLW everywhere.

Lynne & I determined that Lexi is fear aggressive. Luckily, this should be the easiest fix out of any aggression issue. She is already making great strides. Lynne said she sees a huge improvement from the first time we showed up at class a few months ago. I brought my two newest books and we picked out some good chapters and articles to focus on. I'm going to develop a training plan and get started on it.

School started yesterday. It'll be a little overwhelming at first, but that's ok. I have an interview with Kohls this afternoon. Let's hope that goes well. Robby has an interview with Norman Alltel tomorrow, and a 2nd interview with Edmond Alltel Tuesday.

**Update** I took Lexi down to mom & dad's neighborhood to walk at the ajoining walking trail. I figure I'll start trying to do that a few times a week and get Lexi out in an open setting. She did pretty well and only barked at one jogger and a dog. She broke her watch me a couple times and turned around to watch people walk by, but that's it. I would pull her off the trail when I saw someone coming and hold her in a sit or down watch me. On the way back to mom & dad's house we passed a jogger and she didn't bark at all! She also starting checking in with me a lot on the return trip, cool.

Work? Awesome? Well...Maybe not.

Started at the medical office yesterday. It was totally overwhelming -- I came home with a horrible headache that even two tylenols couldn't knock. I'm not going to bad mouth anyone there, but it was certainly an interesting environment. I sent Lesa (office manager, basically) an email this morning and told her I didn't think it was going to be the right fit for me. She and I have emailed back and forth a little this morning. I'm trying to decide what to do. It's like me going to show a cat. I'm still showing, but it's a whole'nother animal. With the medical office -- it's still an office with appointments, charts, filing, etc -- but it's not a vet clinic, which I feel very at home in.

I went to apply at Eastmoor Vet this morning -- they need an experienced receptionist. We'll see what happens, but that would be awesome if that could work out. They even still have the picture of Sonny & I from Westminster on their wall -- I couldn't believe it!!

Skye & Lexi start their intermediate class tonight -- should be fun.

Saturday

Got up this morning and went to Hillcrest to pick up my W-2, ran to get gas, and then headed down to mom & dad's to check on Kameko one last time and do some things around there. I forgot to take their Wii down, guess I'll do it this afternoon or tomorrow!

I spent an hour or so re-doing my website. Probably wouldn't have taken so long if it hadn't decided to crash so many times.

The dogs have been outside playing most of the day, except Miss Lexi. She's inside with me right now because she kept barking at the people next door! Good guard dog, but annoying barking!

Getting ready to start work Monday and school Tuesday -- it'll be a busy week. We went to the grocery store last night and also finally fixed our oven, yay! It's so nice to be able to bake again!

Happy Birthday, Skye!!

Miss Skye turned two years old today!

Robby helped groom her yesterday. He trimmed her feet! I think they turned out pretty good!

I got a job...!!!!!!!!!

WOOHOOOO!!! I got the awesome news this afternoon. An offer to work for the wonderful doctor's office I went to interview at yesterday! I'll be starting Monday...can't wait! Went out and bought scrubs this evening (couldn't wait, lol....notice a theme???) Got some cute tops and bottoms to mix and match. It cost almost $100 (actually over $100 after we went to Target to get some plain white shirts to wear underneath them...!) but, I'll get reimbursed that and then some after 90 days, which is cool. I had no idea scrubs were sooo comfortable, I just loved trying them on -- didn't want to take them off!!

Good news on Robby's job front as well. He got called back for a second interview with the District guy next Wednesday. Pretty exciting! Finally things are starting to turn around!

We took Drew to visit and play with 'Aunt' Zoe today while Robby & Bob changed the oil in my car. They had so much fun in the yard and then Drew kept jumping from couch to couch once we got inside. He liked playing with Bob. He was so tired by the time we got home, though!

Also got everyone's tags (rabies and ID tags) put on their collars today. Had to go to PetSmart to get three ID tags (Skye, Lexi, & Drew), plus Lexi a collar. We were letting her grow up more before getting one. I found an adorable red leather one with some neat swirls on it. Everyone is official now and jingles around the house.

Mom & dad are having an awesome time in Hawaii, the pics are great -- looks like they're having a blast!!!!

Time for bed -- it's been a LONG day!! Robby was off and we ran a ton of errands.

Yippee!

Monday came FAST! The weekend was good and relaxing. Didn't do much at all.

I had a call this morning from someone asking me to come in for an interview. I went in at 1:15 -- lasted almost an hour and it was amazing. She told me to go home, talk to Robby, think about it, and email her in the morning with my decision. If I say I'm interested (which I will) - then she'll check my references tomorrow afternoon. I would be a front office assistant for an Internal Medicine Doctor at the Southwest Medical Center complex. (the 5 story building connected to the hospital...) M-F, 8-5 - awesome benefits, great small little office, and it seems as though the Doctor is very similar to Doc...which is awesome. She even said they'd cross train me if I wanted to -- basically to where I could take vitals, EKGs, hook up a monitor, and in the fall give flu vaccines. FUN!

Robby is still waiting to hear from Alltel. James has a connection with Aaron's Rent-A-Center (they apparently have a really good management program) so they're working on that, too.

More later --

It's Friday...!

Puffer Fish from our trip to Tulsa last year
I've been busy applying at various places the past few days. Hopefully something turns up! I'm getting so bored staying at home! It's been pretty much two months, now.

OU unfortunately lost the National Championship. They played good, but certainly not their best performance.

It was an adventurous day yesterday for one of our former kitties. Robby & I had given Panda & Electra back over to the adoption agency to find new homes for them. Electra got adopted Monday and the new owner then proceeded to put her on craigslist! I found the ad yesterday and called the adoption center. They were aware of it, but couldn't get the lady to respond back to them. So I stepped in and was able to pick up Electra last night and take her back to the adoption center. On a better note, Panda was adopted by a lovely couple and they heard she is doing great!

Mom & Dad are in tropical Hawai'i now. I heard from dad this morning -- it was 7am their time and he was sitting on the balcony watching the ocean and the sun rise...OoOoOoOo - how nice it must be! They are going to the Polynesian Culture Center all day today. Can't wait for pictures to start being downloaded tomorrow once they get to their condo in Maui.

I ordered two new books yesterday -- Jeanne Donaldson's "Dogs Are From Neptune" and the 2nd edition Resource Book from the APDT. They should be in Monday, can't wait to start reading them!

Lexi moves on up

Lexi had her last beginner class tonight. It went well, we took Skye with us and worked on a bunch of stuff. Lexi gets to move to Intermediate starting next week -- still Tuesdays at 8pm. There's other large dogs in it and I think Robby is even going to take Skye through it. Should be fun!! We're still on track for our Rally debut in March, as long as I can get her past the reactive barking at people.

Robby was off today and we ran a bunch of errands. Took up much of the morning and early afternoon.

Long day...and it's still not over!

Got up this morning and went to Hillcrest to do statements and reminders. Chatted with Roul for a bit and dropped off the new business cards -- hopefully Doc doesn't mind them!

Robby works all day today - boring! But James went by yesterday to apply, so at least Robby will have someone to talk to (that he LIKES) until he gets on elsewhere.

On a side note...say hello to Nibbles (left) and Spike (we didn't choose their names obviously!)

I went and adopted them from the OKC Shelter yesterday (that place has CHANGED! And for the better...!) They were owner surrended back early last month - and unfortunately, even the cage...er...tank...they were kept in at the shelter was horrible. They're goofy little guys, but certainly taking a while to get accustomed to us. I did a red-eye correction so that's why their eyes look so grey...ick! Robby & I finally got past losing ours back in 2007 -- so it was time for another pair. (Those of you taking count...dad...! That's four dogs, one chinchilla, and two guinea pigs....and one fish who just won't die!)

A New Day, A New Year

2008 is finally behind it and thank goodness! It was a very crazy year, that's for sure!!!

But, '09 got off to an awesome start. Robby and I got up at 7:30 this morning and went to eat breakfast at Cattlemen's. Yummy!! We ran around the city some, came home and played on the Wii, and then took our outdoor Christmas decorations to mom & dad's to put up. We also helped them get their stuff into the attic.

We grilled out chicken and taters tonight, it was delicious!

Hopefully we'll both hear something on jobs very soon and get back in the hang of things. School starts back in a couple weeks, getting anxious to finally get one piece of paper down and start on the second, and more important one.

We reanalyzed our finances today also and decided where we want to go with our investments, purchases, etc in the next couple years.

Here's to a new, and hopefully better, year!
